Dr. Swamy files PIL seeking SIT to investigate into Tirupati Laddu row
BJP leader Subramanian Swamy has moved the Supreme Court over the recent controversy where animal fat was found in Tirupati Laddu Prasadam served at the revered Tirupati temple. He has sought the formation of a court-monitored committee to look into allegations of substandard ingredients being used to prepare the laddus.
“There ought to have been checks and balances internally to supervise and verify and check the quality or the lack of it, of the suppliers supplying various ingredients the temple which go into the making of the Prasadams,” his plea said. In the interim, he has sought directions to be issued to the State of Andhra Pradesh to file a detailed report on the source and sampling of the ghee used for making the laddu.
Subramanian Swamy said in X after filing PIL:
Today I filed a PIL seeking Supreme Court direction to investigate unsubstantiated allegation by CM C.B. Naidu that the Tirupati Tirumala Temple Prasadam were adulterated with meat of animals and other rotten items creating chaos almost bhaktas

Pertinently, Dr. Swamy in his plea has said that the disclosures regarding the test results should not have been leaked to the media but should have been handled first by the temple trust’s officers on the administrative side. “However, the opportunity was seized upon certain individuals to make a political statement,” it has been contended.
“It is also, humbly stated that, on 21.06.2024, Respondent No.3 through EO, informed the workers to prepare and try sample laddus with the best quality ghee. Furthermore, the sampling of the ghee given to the lab was dated 17.07.2024. However, some important questions and concerns arise from such a report, which can be addressed by the committee to be formed by this Hon’ble Court and which are as follows:
- Was the sampling done/procured by the lab-testing agency?
- Was the sample of ghee taken from the ghee that was used in the offerings or from the rejected lot of samples?
- Which supplier was concerned with the procurement of the said adulterated ghee?
- Whether the said report have scope for a false positive result [as stated in the annexure of the report]?
- When was or whether the said ghee procured or rejected after the internal testing of Respondent No.3?
- Whether any political intervention should be permissible in releasing such reports and not be the TTD ?, said Swamy in his detailed petition.
Ex-TTD Chairman, Y V Subba Reddy, Member of Rajya Sabha moves Supreme Court on Tirupati laddu and ghee issue. Reddy has asked for an independent committee under a Retd. Judge of the Supreme Court.
The petition is filed by Baani Khanna, AOR, and drawn by Ms. Palak Bishnoi, Advocate.
