Reasi terror attack: Hakim Din, who provided logistics to foreign terrorists nabbed

In a first breakthrough in the Reasi terror attack case, the Jammu and Kashmir Police claimed to have arrested Hakam Din, a resident of the Bandrahi area of the Rajouri district, for acting as a guide and organizing logistics for a group of three foreign terrorists behind the attack.

In return, these foreign terrorists paid him a sum of Rs.6000 before heading to their safe hideout.

A total of nine pilgrims were killed and 41 others were injured in the terror attack which coincided with the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a third term in succession.

Addressing a media conference, SSP Reasi Mohita Sharma Wednesday told reporters, “J&K Police have arrested 45-year-old Hakam Din at Reasi. She said Hakam Din was involved in harboring the terrorists multiple times. Along with providing food and shelter, the said person also acted as a guide and helped the foreign terrorists reach the terror attack site”.

SSP Reasi said Hakam Din was a terror associate who helped the terrorists in the execution of the attack. SSP Reasi also added Hakam Din has so far confessed that he sheltered three foreign terrorists for a paltry sum of Rs. 6000.

SSP Reasi told reporters, that Hakam Din has also claimed during preliminary interrogation that he was present at the time of the attack and heard gunshots. He later escorted them (foreign terrorists) to their safe hideout.

She revealed the foreign terrorists visited his residence on at least three occasions. They stayed at his residence for one full day before he dropped them in Reasi near the attack site.

SSP Reasi said since June 9 both Rajouri and Reasi police teams have been carrying out searches to neutralize these foreign terrorists hiding in the area. “We will not stop until those terrorists are either arrested or neutralized”. She maintained “Around 150 people have been picked up in connection with this case.

Referring to reports about the possibility of a terror attack in the region SSP Reasi clarified the police teams were on high alert in the wake of the swearing-in ceremony of the new govt and India-Pakistan match. We did not get any specific input regarding this attack…”, SSP Reasi added.

Meanwhile, two terrorists were gunned down by the joint team of security forces in the North Kashmir town of Sopore on Wednesday ahead of the visit of the Prime Minister to Srinagar in connection with the celebrations of the 10th International Yoga Day on June 21.

The Jammu and Kashmir police have also declared Srinagar as a temporary Red Zone and banned the operation of drones. Elaborate security arrangements have been made in and around the SKICC center where at least 7000 people are expected to participate in the Yoga Day celebrations along with PM Modi.
