PM Internship Scheme draws massive response

In a remarkable response to the recently launched PM Internship Scheme, over 1.55 lakh candidates registered within the first 24 hours, according to government sources.

The scheme, aimed at combating youth unemployment, was unveiled in the Union Budget 2024 by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and is set to provide around 10 million young individuals with internship opportunities over the next five years.

The registration process commenced on Saturday, offering nearly 80,000 internships across 24 sectors. Notable companies such as Jubilant Foodworks, Maruti Suzuki India, Larsen and Toubro, Muthoot Finance, and Reliance Industries are among the 193 firms that have posted positions on the platform, spanning diverse fields like operations management, production, maintenance, and sales.

Designed to connect youth with companies seeking talent, the PM Internship Scheme addresses skill gaps and aims to enhance employability. The initiative has garnered participation from various sectors, including oil, gas, energy, travel, hospitality, automotive, and banking.

The online portal provides efficient access to internships, featuring Aadhaar-based registration and tools for bio-data generation. This financial year, the scheme targets over 1.2 lakh internships in 737 districts across 37 states and union territories.

Participants in the scheme will have the opportunity to intern with some of India’s top 500 companies for one year, receiving a monthly allowance of Rs.5,000 and a one-time grant of Rs.6,000. The stipend comprises Rs.500 from companies through their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, while the government covers Rs.4,500.

Eligibility for the PM Internship Scheme includes candidates who have completed high school, possess a certificate from an ITI, hold a diploma from a Polytechnic Institute, or are graduates with degrees in fields such as BA, B.Sc, B.Com, BCA, BBA, or B.Pharma.

Candidates interested in applying can register on the official portal at pminternship.mca.gov.in.

The enthusiastic response to the scheme underscores the pressing demand for employment opportunities among India’s youth and the government’s commitment to addressing it.
