Bose vs. Banerjee: Clash over molestation accusations

West Bengal Governor C V Ananda Bose filed a defamation case against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee a day after she said that women complained to her saying that they were afraid to visit the Raj Bhavan because of the activities there. “Governor C V Ananda Bose on Friday moved the Calcutta High Court and filed a defamation suit against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her party leaders for their comments,” said officials from Raj Bhavan.

Mamata Banerjee’s remarks came a few weeks after a contractual employee accused Governor Ananda Bose of “molestation” following which the Kolkata Police also started a probe. Ananda Bose has also filed a similar defamation case against some Trinamool Congress (TMC) employees for making similar remarks.

During an administrative meeting in the State Secretariat, Mamata Banerjee claimed that “women have informed her they are afraid to visit Raj Bhavan due to recent incidents reported there.” TMC Rajya Sabha MP Dola Sen said that she would be unable to comment on the matter without further discussion with the party leaders. “I have to talk to my party leadership to find out what actually happened. This is quite a sensitive matter,” Sen told media.

Meanwhile, senior BJP leader Rahul Sinha held the view that Bose took the right decision. “I think Governor Bose has taken the right decision. He should have taken this decision long back. I fully support him for this,” said Sinha.

Sujan Chakraborty, a veteran Communist party leader in the State, said that the tussle between Bose and Banerjee is not helping Bengal. “It’s actually taking us down. They seem to have forgotten their Constitutional responsibilities. Their acts are damaging West Bengal’s image at the national level,” said the CPI(M) leader.

  1. In democracy we have suffer the likes of these leaders until the people throw them out. SIR-JI is another example, 90 days behind the bars and still not willing to quit.
