Up to 10 lakh jobs forecasted for the festive season; notable surge in gig workforce participation: NLB Services

The upcoming festive season is poised to bring a surge of job opportunities across India, with projections indicating the creation of up to 10 lakh new positions. A recent report highlights a significant 35 percent increase in job openings, encompassing both white-collar and blue-collar roles.

The festive season is expected to be particularly beneficial for gig and female workers, with many women attracted to the flexibility and variety offered by gig economy roles. Popular gig positions include brand advocacy, beauty and grooming, online tutoring, domestic help, cab driving, and food delivery, according to NLB Services, a leading technology and digital talent solutions provider.

Industries such as retail, hospitality, e-commerce, logistics, consumer goods, banking, and insurance are ramping up hiring efforts. E-commerce is anticipated to see the highest demand, with a 22 percent increase in job openings compared to last year. This surge is expected to drive a significant rise in temporary and permanent positions, including delivery drivers, customer service representatives, tech support specialists, and freelance designers.

Sachin Alug, CEO of NLB Services, noted that salaries for these roles are projected to rise by 10-20 percent over the next few months due to increased demand. “With the e-commerce sector experiencing a major surge in sales, we are seeing a corresponding rise in hiring for various supply chain roles,” he said.

The report also highlights a 30 percent increase in demand for gig delivery riders during peak customer periods, driven by a boom in rapid commerce platforms. Additionally, metro cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Kolkata have seen a 15 percent rise in seasonal hiring, while Tier 2 cities like Nagpur, Jaipur, Vadodara, Kochi, and others are experiencing even stronger growth, ranging from 20 to 25 percent.

The increase in job opportunities is attributed to factors such as heightened consumer spending, seasonal business needs, and positive economic indicators, contributing to a vibrant job market for the festive season.
