Passengers travelling to or from Dubai prohibited from carrying pagers, walkie-talkies: Emirates

In response to heightened security concerns following recent attacks involving communication devices in Lebanon, Dubai’s Emirates Airlines has banned passengers from carrying pagers and walkie-talkies on its flights.

The move comes after last month’s attacks on Lebanese group Hezbollah involving communication devices that exploded.

The Dubai-based airline issued a statement on its website on Friday, declaring that all passengers traveling to, from, or via Dubai are prohibited from transporting these devices in either checked or cabin baggage. Emirates emphasized that any prohibited items discovered will be confiscated by Dubai Police as part of their enhanced security measures.

In addition to the ban, Emirates announced that flights to Iraq and Iran will remain suspended until Tuesday, while services to Jordan are set to resume on Sunday. Flights to Lebanon will be suspended until October 15 due to escalating Israeli military actions against Hezbollah, including airstrikes near Beirut’s airport.

Several other airlines have also halted flights to Beirut and other regional airports as tensions continue to rise in the area. The situation remains fluid, with ongoing assessments of safety protocols for air travel in the region.

The September attacks, which targeted the Lebanese group Hezbollah, involved thousands of explosive devices disguised as pagers, leading to widespread concerns about potential threats. While the attacks have been attributed to Israel, the Israeli government has not claimed responsibility.
