Rahul Gandhi has degraded the position of LoP: Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw

The speech delivered by Leader of Opposition, Rahul Gandhi in the Lok Sabha on Monday elicited a strong response from the ruling NDA government, which criticized the Congress MP for his “irresponsible remarks.”

It must be one of the rarest occasions in Indian parliamentary history when the Prime Minister, Home Minister, Defence Minister, Agriculture Minister, and some other senior ministers had to intervene to object to and correct the Leader of Opposition.

At a press conference, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said, “Leader of Opposition is a very responsible post. Rahul ji has for the first time taken responsibility, but today he made irresponsible statements.”

Vaishnaw accused Rahul Gandhi of lying about the Agnipath scheme.

Ashwini Vaishnaw slammed Rahul Gandhi for lies on the Agnipath scheme. “He (Rahul Gandhi) made some objectionable remarks in Parliament today. He said that martyrs won’t receive compensation under the Agniveer Scheme. The Defence Minister made it clear that Rs.1 crore compensation is given in the Agniveer scheme. Congress has raised this issue multiple times and tried to create a false narrative,” he said.

“Today Rahul Gandhi has called the entire Hindu society violent and untruthful. He has insulted Hindu society. Rahul Gandhi has today lowered the dignity of the post of Leader of the Opposition. The whole country is saddened by this statement of Rahul Gandhi and no amount of condemnation of this statement is enough,” Ashwini Vaishnaw said.

He added, “Calling Hindus violent, calling Hindus liars, putting up pictures of God during parliamentary debate, adding politics to it, this level of debate does not suit the leader of the opposition in any way.”

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said that a request has been made to the Speaker\ to establish a directive for addressing unverified statements made by Members of Parliament.

“We have made a request to the Speaker to pass a direction that if we have made an unverified statement then we are ready to take a corrective course,” said Rijiju.

However, he also insisted that if the Leader of the Opposition is found to have lied in the House, they must face the corresponding rules and regulations.

Rahul Gandhi’s speech:

  • Agniveer is a use-and-throw labour. One jawan is getting a pension, while another is not. You are creating a divide between jawans.
  • All our great men have spoken about non-violence and finishing fear…But, those who call themselves Hindu only talk about violence, hatred, and untruth.
  • MSP not being paid to the farmers, and during farmers’ agitation, the BJP called them terrorists.

  1. Constitution allows to tell as many lies as one can. Supreme Court allows & protects it. Why BJP is sulking to the man it love most ?

  2. It is so unfortunate that the speech in the parliament is being hailed as speaker coming of age, the new low the media is going down to is also just as remarkable. Do not know if the The PM should respond at all or just ignore the speech like we ignore Pakistan.
