Two alarming incidents on Indian Railways

In a series of alarming incidents aimed at disrupting train services, a gas cylinder was discovered on the tracks in Uttar Pradesh, while detonators were found on railway tracks in Madhya Pradesh, prompting serious security concerns.

In Uttar Pradesh, a gas cylinder was spotted near Prempur railway station on the Delhi-Howrah rail line early Sunday morning. A goods train traveling from Kanpur to Prayagraj was halted when the locomotive pilot noticed the gas cylinder while stopping to let an express train pass.

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) quickly responded to the situation. Upon investigation, the five-liter cylinder was found to be empty and removed from the tracks. Authorities have initiated an investigation into the matter.

In a separate incident in Madhya Pradesh’s Burhanpur district, at least ten detonators were discovered on a railway track in an apparent attempt to derail a special train carrying Army personnel. This incident occurred near Sagphata railway station on September 18.

The train was en route from Jammu and Kashmir to Karnataka when the driver became alerted by an explosion and stopped the train. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and senior officials from the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), National Investigation Agency (NIA), railways, and local police are currently investigating the event.

These incidents follow another close call earlier this month in Uttar Pradesh, where an LPG cylinder was placed on the tracks in an attempt to derail the Kalindi Express, which came to a screeching halt after hitting the cylinder. The recent events have raised significant concerns about the safety of rail travel and the potential threats facing the railway network in India.

This was the second such incident in Uttar Pradesh this month. On September 8, an attempt was made to derail the Kalindi Express, heading towards Bhiwani from Prayagraj, by placing an LPG cylinder on the tracks.

Authorities are working diligently to uncover the motives behind these attempts and to enhance security measures across the railway system to prevent future incidents.
