10 doctors, including interns, Sr residents, expelled from Kolkata’s RG Kar College authorities’ notification

Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital has expelled ten doctors, including interns and senior residents, following a notification from the college authorities. The decision comes amid ongoing investigations by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into serious allegations against Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of the institution.

The expelled doctors, who were considered close confidants of Ghosh, face multiple charges ranging from intimidation and misconduct to financial irregularities.

Among those expelled is Ashish Pandey, a house staff member currently in CBI custody for his alleged involvement in the financial misconduct case. The only female doctor in the group is Ayushree Thapa.

The other expelled members are Sourav Pal, Abhishek Sen, Nirjan Bagchi, Sarif Hasan, Neelagni Debnath, Amarendra Singh, Satpal Singh, and Tanweer Ahmed Kazi. The charges outlined against them include threatening fellow students, forcing juniors to join specific political groups, sexual harassment, extortion, filing false police complaints, and physical violence.

The notification instructs all expelled individuals to vacate the college hostel within 72 hours. Their registration papers will be reviewed and forwarded to the West Bengal Medical Council for further action.

In response to the ongoing turmoil, the West Bengal Junior Doctors’ Front (WBJDF), which is actively protesting against the recent rape and murder case involving a junior doctor, announced a unique form of protest. They plan to offer medical services to patients while simultaneously observing a hunger strike. Six junior medical students—three females and three males—have volunteered to initiate the hunger strike, which began Saturday evening.

The situation at RG Kar Medical College remains tense as both the administration and student body navigate the fallout from these serious allegations and ongoing investigations.
